Facility Access Workflow Planning
Access-control planning starts with who needs to enter, when entry is appropriate and how exceptions are handled. Use this guide to describe workflows before choosing readers, credentials or software.
Build an opening and user inventory
List controlled openings and their existing hardware. Identify employee, visitor, contractor and service access needs. Record schedules, shared spaces and the person responsible for approving each type of access.
Describe exceptions and integrations
Explain lost credentials, temporary users, late deliveries and unattended reception. Identify events that need associated video or alarm information. Distinguish a request for information from permission to unlock a door or change an alarm state.
Coordinate hardware and test daily tasks
Record power, network, cabling and responsibility for door work. Have the project team review egress, accessibility and life-safety interfaces for the property. Demonstrate credential issue and removal, schedules, event retrieval and agreed fault behavior.
Questions for your project brief
- Who authorizes and removes each user?
- What happens outside ordinary schedules?
- Which systems must exchange event information?
- How are account ownership and configuration records handed over?
