Security System Handover and Staff Training Checklist

Security System Handover and Staff Training Checklist

A completed installation needs a practical handover so staff can operate the system and maintain records. Use this checklist to define training and documentation before project acceptance.

Identify people and tasks

Separate the needs of ordinary users, supervisors, administrators and support contacts. List the tasks each role must perform, such as reviewing an event, exporting a record, issuing a credential or updating a contact list. Plan for staff turnover and refresher instruction.

Require a usable documentation package

Request an equipment inventory, labeled locations, approved settings, account-ownership records, license details and support contacts. Keep credentials in an agreed secure process rather than a general instruction sheet. Document known limitations and unresolved items.

Demonstrate before signing off

Use representative scenarios and agreed operating conditions. Ask staff to perform the tasks themselves with supervision. Record results, outstanding issues and responsibilities for correction. Confirm the process for reporting a fault and obtaining authorized support.

Questions for your project brief

  • Can each role perform its assigned tasks?
  • Who owns the administrator accounts and subscriptions?
  • Where are drawings and configuration records stored?
  • How will new staff receive training?
